Initiation
Unaware of oneself
You go through life on autopilot. You react more than you act, and it is hard to tell what you feel from what you actually need. Your emotions, habits and thoughts run you without any conscious observation. You confuse who you think you are with who you really are, and a persistent feeling appears: "I don't understand why these things keep happening to me."
Key
Not knowing.
What to do here
Recognise that you don't understand what is happening, and start observing yourself.
How to work at this stage
You can't leave this stage by deciding to, but you can start to notice. The practice is not analysis; it is observation. Watch your automatic reactions without trying to change them, and ask: "What did I feel just before I responded?"
- After a strong reaction, pause and name what you felt: not what happened, but what you felt.
- Pick one habit you run on autopilot and describe it as if you were seeing it for the first time.
- Ask yourself: "Is this a fact, or my interpretation of a fact?"
Signs you may be here
At this stage there is nothing to measure yet. The only sign that matters is the moment you start to notice.
This guide is not meant to classify you. You will recognise yourself in more than one stage, and that is fine.
