The path of self-knowledge
The five stages
Knowing yourself takes patience, perseverance and effort. These stages show increasing inner clarity, and they line up with three competencies: knowing, doing and acting, and finally living what you have learned without having to think about it.
Initiation
Unaware of oneself
You go through life on autopilot. You react more than you act, and it is hard to tell what you feel from what you actually need. Your emotions, habits and thoughts run you without any conscious observation. You confuse who you think you are with who you really are, and a persistent feeling appears: "I don't understand why these things keep happening to me."
Key: Not knowing.

Beginning to see oneself
The first moment of awareness appears: a flash that reveals an inner world to explore. You begin to notice patterns, reactions, emotions and their consequences. Curiosity to understand yourself arises, along with the humility to admit that you didn't know yourself before. This stage is marked by self-questioning, wonder and openness to change.
Key: Curiosity to learn.

Commanding the essentials
You are no longer an apprentice: you have a solid command of the fundamentals. You act with more clarity and begin to bring what you have learned into daily life. Deliberate practice strengthens your abilities and lets you respond better to your emotions and circumstances. Your inner work becomes steadier, and you begin to take responsibility for your patterns and decisions.
Key: Command grows with constant practice.

Inspiring others
You don't just understand yourself: you live consistently with what you understand. Your perception of your inner and outer world becomes sharper. You develop discernment, equanimity and a steadier presence. You inspire others, and you teach more by example than by explanation.
Key: We teach, above all by example.

The integrator
Your perception of yourself becomes transparent: there is no longer a conflict between the one who observes and what is observed. Self-knowledge becomes living wisdom, a natural way of relating to the world with lucidity and compassion. The ego does not disappear: you integrate it as a tool in the service of your purpose.
Key: Authentic mastery becomes natural.
Explore this stageThe stages are not a race and they are not meant to classify you. You will recognise yourself in more than one. Progress is gradual, so it is rarely visible day to day, but when you compare where you are with where you started, you will be surprised.
